Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
